Medical Coding Specialist

Optima Medical is an Arizona-based medical group with 30 locations and 130+ medical providers caring for over 200,000 patients statewide. Their mission is to improve quality of life by offering personalized healthcare focused on preventing leading causes of death. Services include cardiovascular health, behavioral health, allergy testing and immunotherapy, in-house labs, imaging, chronic disease management, and other specialty health services.

This Medical Coding Specialist role starts with up to 30 days of onsite training in Scottsdale, AZ, then transitions to fully remote work. Candidates must reside in Arizona and complete initial training onsite.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Review and assign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes for diagnoses and procedures based on clinical documentation.
  • Ensure coding compliance with CMS guidelines and state/federal regulations.
  • Provide precise and professional feedback to providers and team members.
  • Assist with claim reviews, denials, and coding-related audits to optimize revenue integrity.
  • Stay updated on coding guidelines, regulatory changes, and best practices.
  • Meet coding productivity and quality standards.
  • Maintain high attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years experience in medical coding in physician practice or healthcare facility.
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential required (AAPC or AHIMA certification), excluding CPC-A or CCA.
  • Strong understanding of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS.
  • Experience with EHR systems, billing software, and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain high accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written communication skills to provide clear feedback.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes, and physiology for accurate documentation interpretation.
  • Must live in Arizona.
