Outpatient Medical Coder

Cooper Thomas LLC is seeking up to ten experienced Outpatient Medical Coders to work remotely for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) under new multi-year VHA contracts. Positions are available as 1099/Subcontractor, W-2 without benefits, and W-2 with benefits. Candidates must have at least 2 years of medical coding experience, previous VA experience, and be US citizens.

Flexible schedules available within a Monday-Sunday workweek. Successful candidates will need to pass an entrance exam. Cooper Thomas LLC offers timely bi-weekly pay, competitive salary options, opportunities for quality bonuses, and growth potential. Signing bonus programs are available for qualified candidates with active Moonlighter or Contractor Network accounts.

Qualifications:

  • Proficient in coding multi-specialty outpatient clinics, ED, minor procedures, radiology, rehab, and lab encounters utilizing ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes.
  • At least 2 years VA or relevant coding experience.
  • Certified coder credentials required.
  • Knowledgeable of VHA coding and site-specific guidelines.
  • Experienced in E/M leveling, E/M calculator, and 3M Encoder use.
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, pathology, pharmacology, health record content, reimbursement methodologies, and coding classification rules.

Accepted certifications include AHIMA credentials (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P) and AAPC credentials (CPC, COC, CPMA).

Minimum education required: High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Ability to pass initial entrance exam
  • Active Background Investigation, COI, PIV Card, eToken, and VA Contractor's Citrix or Moonlighter account
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
