Medical Coder I, II, III

We are seeking certified Medical Coders at levels I, II, and III to provide comprehensive coding services supporting the Defense Health Agency (DHA). This full-time remote position involves outpatient coding for Medical Coders I and II, and inpatient coding for Medical Coder III.

Responsibilities include accurately assigning Evaluation and Management (E&M) codes, CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, and ICD-10-PCS codes based on patient records accessed through the Military Health System GENESIS system. Candidates must maintain high productivity and 97% coding accuracy.

Positions:

  • Medical Coder I: Codes outpatient primary care professional and institutional components.
  • Medical Coder II: Codes same-day surgery, emergency department, inpatient observation, and outpatient specialty clinics.
  • Medical Coder III: Codes institutional components for inpatient discharges and associated services.

Education options include associate degree or higher in health information or related fields, medical coding certificates, or relevant college coursework.

Required certifications include one or more from AAPC or AHIMA such as CPC, CCS-P, RHIT, RHIA, or COC.

Minimum three years of coding/auditing experience in two or more specialties within the last 10 years (or two years if military facility experience). Experience with DoD, VA, and MHS GENESIS systems is preferred.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Certification in medical coding required (AAPC or AHIMA credentials such as CPC, CCS-P, RHIT, RHIA, or COC).
  • Minimum 3 years medical coding/auditing experience in multiple specialties, or 2 years with military treatment facility experience.
  • Knowledge of coding professional and institutional components for outpatient and inpatient services.
  • Familiarity with Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS system preferred.
  • Ability to maintain high coding productivity and accuracy.
  • Relevant education including associate's degree, certificate in medical coding, or related coursework.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and certification enhancement.
