Inpatient Rehab Hospital Coder

The Inpatient Rehab Hospital Coder works from home and is responsible for identifying correct coding and sequencing of ICD-10-CM diagnosis and comorbidity codes on the claim form and IRF-PAI for the hospital's inpatient population.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring documentation to substantiate code assignment is present in the medical record.
  • Completing coding and abstracting of inpatient medical records in accordance with ICD-10 CM coding rules and guidelines.
  • Querying physicians when documentation is unclear for coding purposes.
  • Entering codes into the medical record and outcome system to ensure timely submission of IRF-PAI and claim.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Two years of medical coding experience; IRF experience preferred.
  • Medical Coding certification such as CPC, CCS, CMC or equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to meet strict time frames.
