The Inpatient Rehab Hospital Coder works from home and is responsible for identifying correct coding and sequencing of ICD-10-CM diagnosis and comorbidity codes on the claim form and IRF-PAI for the hospital's inpatient population.
Responsibilities include:
- Ensuring documentation to substantiate code assignment is present in the medical record.
- Completing coding and abstracting of inpatient medical records in accordance with ICD-10 CM coding rules and guidelines.
- Querying physicians when documentation is unclear for coding purposes.
- Entering codes into the medical record and outcome system to ensure timely submission of IRF-PAI and claim.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Two years of medical coding experience; IRF experience preferred.
- Medical Coding certification such as CPC, CCS, CMC or equivalent.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to meet strict time frames.
