Reports to the Manager of Professional Coding. Under general supervision and following BMG Professional Coding policies, reviews and accurately codes office and hospital procedures for reimbursement requiring initiative and judgement.

Primary responsibilities include:
- Extracting relevant information from patient records and identifying missing documents.
- Serving as liaison with physicians and other healthcare providers to clarify information.
- Applying CPT, ICD, and HCPCS codes accurately to support compliant coding.
- Handling rejected and denied claims and assisting with complex denial resolution.
- Communicating coding changes and billing opportunities to supervisors and providers.
- Assisting providers with required documentation and ensuring compliant coding and reimbursement.
- Monitoring provider documentation trends and adherence to standards and regulatory requirements.
- Performing audits to identify and correct coding errors.
- Achieving and maintaining BMG's coding productivity and accuracy standards.
Additional duties include collaborating with Central Business Office associates, presenting coding and compliance topics, and completing other assigned projects.
Education & Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent required; graduation from an accredited medical coding program preferred.
- Two years physician coding experience in applicable specialty preferred.
- Certification required: Certified Coding Specialist-Physician Based, Certified Professional Coder, Certified Medical Coder, or Certified Coding Associate.
- 12 hours of coding-related education per year mandatory.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Proficiency in CPT, ICD, and HCPCS coding.
- Knowledge of regulatory and payer-specific coding guidelines.
- Understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient with EMR software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of HIPAA and ability to maintain data confidentiality.
