The primary role of the Outpatient Coder I is to review medical records for clinic visits, radiology reports, laboratory requisitions, and other diagnostic testing reports. Responsibilities include: reviewing outpatient medical records, analyzing clinical documentation for coding accuracy, determining appropriate Evaluation and Management (E/M) charges for clinic encounters, and assigning ICD-10 diagnosis codes and CPT procedure codes as applicable.
Candidates are required to have a High School Diploma or equivalent and 1 to 2 years of medical records and outpatient coding experience. New graduates or senior students in Health Information Management (HIM), Health Information Technology (HIT), or related health fields will also be considered. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, disease processes, coding clinic guidelines, outpatient ICD-10 and CPT-4 coding principles, and experience with encoders (e.g., Clintegrity 360) and electronic medical records are important. Candidates must possess excellent communication skills, be detail-oriented, organized, able to work independently, and proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
The position requires availability for evenings and/or weekends as needed.

- Knowledge of outpatient ICD-10 and CPT-4 coding principles and guidelines
- Prior experience using an encoder (Clintegrity 360) and electronic medical records is a plus
