The Emergency Department Coder is responsible for accurately abstracting data into client electronic medical record systems, following Official ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Coding Guidelines, AMA CPT Guidelines, and CMS directives. Duties include data entry of abstracted patient information, querying physicians when appropriate, working with Clinical Documentation staff, and maintaining coding accuracy of 95% or better while meeting productivity standards.
Key duties:
- Assign appropriate ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS codes and modifiers for facility-based ancillary, emergency department, observation, and outpatient surgery accounts.
- Abstract and enter coded data and charges for hospital reporting requirements.
- Query physicians to clarify conflicting or incomplete clinical information.
- Communicate documentation improvement opportunities and coding issues.
- Collaborate with Clinical Documentation Improvement and Revenue Cycle teams.
- Maintain coding credential requirements and productivity standards.
This is a remote, full-time position.
Requirements:
- Approved AHIMA or AAPC coding credential.
- Minimum 2 years coding experience.
- Trauma level 3 facility experience.
- Experience with both professional fee and facility coding and leveling.
- Experience with injections and infusions.
- Preferred experience with Alterra and 3M systems.
