Coder - Outpatient

This position involves thorough medical record review to abstract medical and demographic data, interpret and apply diagnoses and procedures using ICD and CPT coding systems, and assist in reducing average accounts receivable days.

Responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing and interpreting medical information, physician treatment plans, course, and outcomes to assign appropriate ICD-10 CM/CPT codes for diagnoses and procedures.
  • Abstracting data elements for statistical use by hospital, health system, medical staff, and entering coded/abstracted information into designated system.
  • Managing medical information and cash flow related to unbilled coding reports.
  • Staying informed on changes in ICD-10 CM/CPT guidelines through training and resources, implementing updates in daily work.
  • Performing other assigned duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum: High School/GED, coding courses in anatomy, physiology, medical terminology.
  • Minimum 1 year hospital and/or physician coding.
  • Minimum 1 year coding at mid-level facilities or clinics.
  • Experience coding major surgeries, observations, and/or E/Ms.
  • Strong data entry and computer application skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with healthcare team.
  • Certifications such as RHIT, RHIA, CCS-P, CPC, COC, or CPC-A.

Preferred:

  • Associate's Degree in Health Information Management or related field.

Pay range posted is hourly; annual salary not specified.
