Certified Professional Coder

DCH Health System

A Certified Professional Coder (CPC) reviews patient medical records, abstracts relevant clinical information, and assigns appropriate medical codes using ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS code sets. Responsibilities include ensuring accurate documentation and coding, facilitating claims processing, and complying with regulatory requirements.

  • Accurately translate patient encounters into standardized medical codes (ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS).
  • Analyze patient records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with coding guidelines.
  • Research and analyze data needs for accurate and timely reimbursement.
  • Conduct chart audits, identify coding discrepancies, and implement corrective actions.
  • Communicate effectively with healthcare providers to clarify coding issues and ensure accurate documentation.
  • Stay updated on changes in coding guidelines, regulations, and technology.

Qualifications:

  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist Physician Based (CCS-P) or Certified Radiology Coder (RCC) required.
  • Prior experience with physician/provider professional fee billing preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of coding systems (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS) and relevant regulations.
  • Attention to detail and ability to meticulously review documentation.
  • Effective communication skills for interfacing with healthcare providers and billing staff.
  • Problem-solving skills to identify and resolve coding discrepancies.
  • Organizational skills to manage workload and prioritize tasks.
  • Proficiency in coding software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Ability to provide courier services using personal transportation.

Working conditions:

Physical presence onsite is essential with the possibility of a hybrid work schedule. Must have normal or corrected hearing and vision, valid driver's license, and automobile insurance. Some light driving and medium physical work required. Good interpersonal and customer service skills essential.

The role requires adherence to DCH Health System performance, compliance, behavioral, safety standards, and policies.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC), CCS-P, or RCC certification required.
  • Experience in physician/provider professional fee billing preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail and communication skills.
  • Proficient with coding software and EHR systems.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to provide courier services using personal vehicle.
