As a Medical Coding Specialist, you will support clinical practice by ensuring accurate coding of patient encounters. Responsibilities include reviewing video, audio, and chat interactions to ensure complete and accurate clinical documentation, applying CPT and ICD-10 codes according to federal and state guidelines, querying clinical teams for additional documentation, analyzing coding patterns for efficiency improvements, and staying updated on coding regulations, especially Medicaid rules.
Ideal candidates possess CPC or equivalent certification, 5+ years of outpatient coding experience including obstetrics/gynecology, pediatrics, therapy, and nutritional counseling, experience with EHR systems (preferably Athena), and knowledge of telehealth coding.
Work schedule is Monday to Friday, 8 or 9 am to 5 or 6 pm EST.
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or equivalent certification
- 5+ years medical coding experience with specialization in outpatient coding for obstetrics/gynecology (including lactation), pediatrics, therapy, and nutritional counseling
- 5+ years experience coding in an EHR system, Athena preferred
- In-depth knowledge of CPT, ICD-10 coding guidelines, and Medicaid coding rules
- Experience coding for telehealth companies preferred
- Experience with asynchronous encounter coding preferred
- Billing experience preferred
- Strong independent critical thinking and meticulous attention to detail
- Passionate about maternal and child health
