We are seeking a Medical Coder (Inpatient) for a large healthcare system based in Houston, TX.
This is a contract role for 13 weeks.
Responsible for reviewing clinical documentation and diagnostic results to extract data and apply appropriate ICD-10-CM/CPT4 codes and modifiers for billing, internal and external reporting, research, and regulatory compliance. Accurately code conditions and procedures following ICD-10-CM & CPT4 Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting. Typically reports to Coding Manager.
Key responsibilities include:
- Review clinical documentation and assign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT-4 codes, and modifiers
- Ensure compliance with coding guidelines and regulatory standards
- Abstract and input data for reporting and billing
- Communicate with providers to clarify documentation and coding queries
- Support quality, compliance, and reimbursement accuracy
- Adhere to AHIMA ethical coding standards
Requirements & Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of coding experience (E/M coding required)
- Preferred experience in Neurology/Neurosurgery coding
- Preferred knowledge of HCC coding
- Required certification: one of CCS, CPC, RHIT, CMC, or CCA
