We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Coder to support Risk Adjustment and Medicare Part C audits by accurately coding inpatient, outpatient, and physician office medical records. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of ICD-9-CM/ICD-10-CM coding guidelines and consistently demonstrates high accuracy and productivity.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform diagnosis coding of inpatient, outpatient, and physician office medical records per Risk Adjustment/Medicare Part C guidelines.
  • Conduct intake validity checks on medical records submitted to ensure documentation is from an acceptable physician specialty, relevant dates of service, includes an acceptable signature, and attestation is submitted.
  • Record all process information in system per contract and organizational guidelines.
  • Review feedback from Senior Coders to improve accuracy and quality.
  • Accurately enter data into encoder, system, and other software.
  • Follow all established processes and procedures.
  • Report problems to Project Lead, Manager, or Director regarding unique record or process issues.
  • Maintain security and confidentiality of medical records and Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Consistently meet or exceed productivity and accuracy standards of minimum 95% IRR.
  • Meet attendance standards.
  • Interact appropriately with peers, coworkers, contractors, and customers, contributing to a positive team spirit.
  • Perform other assigned duties and projects.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years experience coding general acute hospital (inpatient and outpatient) and/or multi-specialty physician office medical records using ICD-9-CM/ICD-10-CM coding guidelines.
  • Certified coder credentialed by recognized institution (AAPC, AHIMA); certifications such as CPC, CCS, RHIA, RHIT.
  • CRC certification is a plus.
  • Experience with abstracting and ICD coding preferred.
  • Experience in Risk Adjustment Data Validation or CMS-HCC audits preferred.
  • Experience performing medical record coding audits including complex abstraction.
  • Ability to work independently with concentration.
  • Capable of consistency, speed, and accuracy.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret physician documentation.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills across all organization levels.
  • Team player, able to collaborate internally and externally.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Flexible, able to prioritize and execute multiple tasks in fast-paced environment.
  • Maintains high confidentiality and integrity.

The annual salary range for this position is $45,000.00 to $60,000.00. Actual compensation depends on skills, experience, qualifications, certifications, location, and applicable laws. RELI Group offers a variety of additional employee benefits.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years coding experience with ICD-9-CM/ICD-10-CM guidelines in hospital and/or physician office settings.
  • Certification from recognized coding bodies (CPC, CCS, RHIA, RHIT); CRC a plus.
  • Preferred experience in Risk Adjustment Data Validation, CMS-HCC audits, and complex record abstraction.
  • Ability to work independently with excellent concentration and accuracy.
  • Strong communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle multiple tasks.
