Penn Medicine is dedicated to providing the highest level of care to patients, conducting innovative research, and educating future leaders in medicine. This role is for an experienced Clinical Coder, working primarily with the Interventional Radiology group; cardiology coding experience is also considered.
This is a remote position, Monday through Friday 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, with onsite meetings once a month.
Responsibilities include coding and abstracting clinical information from inpatient and outpatient records, assigning ICD-10-CM diagnostic and procedure codes, CPT codes, modifiers, and determining MS-DRG assignments based on clinical documentation. The role involves adherence to ethical coding standards and guidelines to ensure accurate reimbursement and compliance.
Secondary duties include assisting Patient Financial Services and physician offices with coding issues, completing daily productivity records, and aiding inpatient case mix capture.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Formal education in ICD-10-CM PCS, CPT-4 coding, medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Certification as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or required to obtain certification within three years.
- Experience or student experience in ICD-10-CM PCS coding, MS-DRG assignment, and CPT-4 coding.
- Familiarity with encoding software.
