Medical Coder

Medical coding in an acute care setting requiring proficient computer skills (MS Word, Excel, ICD 9 CM, CPT 4, Encoder). Must have knowledge of coding guidelines, payor guidelines, federal billing guidelines, anatomy, physiology, and disease processes. Ability to research coding related issues and competence in coder training required. Certification: CCS and familiarity with 3M/HDS coding application. Experience with outpatient and emergency department coding is essential.

This role is remote currently with 1-2 weeks of onsite training at the start. The hiring manager is flexible.

Responsibilities include: medical coding in an acute care setting; proficiency in required computer applications; knowledge of various coding and billing guidelines; researching coding issues; coder training competence; use of 3M/HDS coding application; outpatient and ED coding experience.

Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED; AHIMA, RHIA or RHIT and/or CCP, CCS certifications.

Required Skills: Minimum of three years experience and knowledge of ICD10.

Preferred Skills: Experience with EPIC and 3M software; CCS or CCP certification from AHIMA, RHIA or RHIT; ideally 4+ years outpatient coding experience; emergency department coding experience critical.
