Intern - Associate Auditor Medical Coding Validation

The intern will assist with a Principal Diagnosis AI Audit project. This internship is suited for a student enrolled in a Health Information Management (HIM) related degree program who has completed a medical coding course, preferably inpatient coding. The role involves using coding knowledge to review AI-generated decisions in a test environment and identify missed coding and auditing opportunities, supporting innovation within the Clinical Chart Validation Team’s audit pipeline.

Responsibilities include analyzing and auditing claims by integrating medical chart coding principles and clinical guidelines, drawing on advanced ICD-10 expertise and industry knowledge to substantiate conclusions. The review may involve medical record and episode of care audits performed independently. The intern will effectively use Cotiviti's proprietary auditing tools, meet or exceed productivity standards set by audit operations management, complete special projects, and perform other assigned duties. Ability to perform duties with or without accommodation is required.

Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in a BS or MS program focused on clinical or health information management
  • Successful completion of ICD-10 and PCS coding courses (coding certification like RHIA, RHIT, CPC, CCS preferred)
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of medical and coding terminology
  • Proficiency in Word, Access, Excel, TEAMS, and related applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated, organized, strong communication and interpersonal skills

Compensation is hourly, ranging from $21.00 to $23.00 per hour. Overtime pay eligibility per applicable laws. This is a remote position with virtual interviews.
