SGMC is recognized locally, statewide, and nationally for exceptional care. The position is based in the SGMC Patient Financial Services department, Revenue Cycle Medical Group.

The role involves coding and abstracting ICD-9 and CPT codes for diagnosis and procedures on ambulatory visits. Utilize the 3M encoder and grouper and verify codes using reference materials. Maintain a daily productivity log. Interaction with physicians and healthcare professionals may be required.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities required include: Certified Coding Specialist preferred but experience considered, high school graduate or equivalent, knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, and ICD-9-CM and CPT coding required. Minimum of one year outpatient medical records coding experience is necessary. Good typing and communication skills are helpful.

Working conditions require spending long hours at a computer terminal, with the ability to see and read names, numbers, and colors. The role is subject to high stress levels and requires use of multiple systems simultaneously (3M, HIS, and HPF).

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Certified Coding Specialist preferred, experience considered
  • High school diploma or equivalent
