The Data Quality Senior Medical Coder performs expert medical record coding and abstracting reviews using ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT-4 classification systems. Responsibilities include coding appeals processing for inpatient and outpatient data quality teams, adhering to official coding guidelines and ethical standards.
The position supports continuous quality improvement and collaborates with nurses and analysts to review denials, process appeals accurately via the C360 system, and ensure compliance with coding standards. The role includes participation in ongoing education to maintain certifications and involvement in special projects and audits as assigned.
This fully remote position focuses on outpatient coding experience such as Emergency Department, Observation, and same-day surgery.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Health Information required.
- CCS certification and 2 years of coding experience considered.
- Certification as RHIT, RHIA, or CCS required.
- Minimum two years coding experience using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4, preferably outpatient coding.
- Knowledge of Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting, AHIMA Code of Ethics, and AHA Coding Clinic.
