Duke Health's Patient Revenue Management Organization is a fully integrated, centralized revenue cycle organization supporting the entire health system by streamlining scheduling, registration, coding, billing, and essential revenue functions.
This position is 100% remote; remote workers must reside in North Carolina, Virginia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, or Texas.
The Medical Records Coder II is a certified coder coordinating and reviewing the work of subordinate employees and assisting with training and continuing education programs. Responsibilities include coding medical records using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding conventions, reviewing records for specificity and appropriate reimbursement, abstracting information, ensuring DRG/APC assignment accuracy, consulting and educating physicians on coding practices, and maintaining thorough understanding of relevant medical and regulatory knowledge.
Candidates must hold one of the following active certifications: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, or HCS-D. Experience requirements vary by certification, ranging from no experience to two years of coding experience.

- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to ensure quality and quantity of work through audits
- Ability to consult and educate physicians and nursing staff on coding practices
