Medix is hiring on behalf of a large health system seeking an experienced Professional Fee (ProFee) Medical Coder with a strong background in Cardiology, Cardiothoracic, and Vascular Surgery coding. This role is responsible for accurate, compliant coding and charge review for physician services across multiple specialties. The candidate works independently in a remote environment.
Key responsibilities include reviewing inpatient and outpatient charges for Cardiology, Cardiothoracic, and Vascular providers; analyzing medical records to assign CPT®, HCPCS, and ICD-10 codes with appropriate modifiers and units; performing pre-claim charge reviews to identify missing or incorrect codes, modifier needs, and documentation issues; working specialty-specific work queues; resolving claim edit work queues; responding to provider inquiries and providing coding education; maintaining ≥90% coding accuracy; participating in meetings and education programs; and other duties.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate degree preferred)
- 2+ years of professional coding experience OR 1+ year coding experience plus 2+ years HCC experience
- Strong experience in Cardiology ProFee coding including echocardiograms, surgeries, E/M services, office visits, and procedures
- Active coding certification from AAPC or AHIMA (Required: CPC or CCS-P; Preferred: CCS or equivalent advanced credential)
- Strong knowledge of CMS guidelines, federal regulations, and coding compliance policies
- Experience with EMR systems (Epic strongly preferred)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred qualifications include Associate degree, Epic EMR experience, and advanced or specialty-specific coding certifications.
Work Schedule & Environment:
- Fully remote (excluding CA, CT, IL, ME, NJ, MA, NY, WA)
- Flexible Monday–Friday schedule, working hours between 5:00 AM–9:00 PM
- 40 hours per week
