Outpatient Coder II

Shift: Days Hours: 8am-5pm Mon-Fri

The Outpatient Coder II is responsible for accurate coding and abstracting clinical information from medical records across ancillary, emergency, outpatient surgery, observation, and low acuity inpatient encounters. This includes applying ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, HCPCS codes with modifiers, and resolving coding edits per Tenet standards.

Responsibilities include maintaining coding quality and productivity, training new coders, liaising between medical records and business offices, ensuring timely coding, completing continuing education, and adhering to HIPAA and confidentiality standards.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • 2-5 years of facility-based coding experience
  • Completion of coding certificate or associate/bachelor's degree in health information management or related field
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite, electronic medical records, and encoder software

Preferred credentials: RHIT, CCS, and/or RHIA.

The role supports remote office setting work.

Desert Care Network includes hospitals serving Coachella Valley and Morongo Basin, offering specialized advanced care services including stroke care, cancer center, Level 1 Trauma Center, and Level 3 NICU.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite, electronic medical record systems, and coding encoder tools
  • Preferred certifications: RHIT, CCS, and/or RHIA
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and comply with HIPAA standards
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with hospital staff and physicians
  • Commitment to continuing education and timely coding practices
