The Remote Hospital Inpatient Coder reviews clinical documentation and diagnostic results to extract data and apply appropriate ICD-10 and PCS diagnosis codes for coding, billing, reporting, research, and regulatory compliance. This position is 100% remote.
Responsibilities include performing quality hospital coding on inpatient accounts across various case types, maintaining knowledge of coding guidelines and regulations, coding all documented services accurately, achieving and maintaining 95% coding accuracy and productivity standards (2 inpatient charts per hour), following facility policies and procedures, daily management of coding queues, querying physicians for ambiguous or incomplete records, working with quality control staff, providing timely coding answers to physician/hospital inquiries, maintaining professional communication, accurately recording work hours, collaborating with IT to resolve system issues, and maintaining HIPAA compliance and patient privacy.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 5+ years coding inpatient records
- 3+ years ICD-10 and PCS coding experience
- Must hold one of the following credentials: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CIC, or CPC
Preferred qualifications include Epic experience and excellent communication skills.
