The Coder III is responsible for coordinating, performing, and completing Medicare compliance. Coding includes outpatient and inpatient services, including procedures. Ensure coding aligns with established standards, NCQA, other regulatory agencies, and Tenet policies.
Responsibilities:
- Perform all assigned billing in a timely manner
- Communicate with physicians to obtain necessary documentation
- Ensure accurate coding from medical records regarding ICD-9, ICD-10, and appropriate evaluation and management CPT codes
- Update patient records with current insurance, address, and telephone numbers
- Identify primary care doctor and referral source with contact information and document it in the medical record
- Perform claims follow-up and reviews with billing agents promptly
- Protect patient confidentiality according to HIPAA guidelines
- Maintain proper credentials and research coding issues to ensure compliance with CMS guidelines
- Attend at least one course/conference per specialty per year to continue education in coding
- Must have orthopedic billing experience
Qualifications:
- AA Degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred
- 5 years coding experience required
- Healthcare background is required
- Current competence with CPT, ICD-10, ICD-9, CPT-4, and HCPCS
- Knowledge of coding schemes and reimbursement practices
- Certified in RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, or COC required
- Proficient in Office and Excel
- Adaptability in a complex, matrix environment
