Coder I

UC Health is hiring a Full-Time Coder I for the Oral Surgery department for first shift.

The Coder I uses established policies and procedures; the Non-certified Coder translates narrative descriptions of diseases, injuries, and medical procedures into numeric or alphanumeric codes needed for billing. This role may code inpatient, observation, and outpatient cases including clinics, ancillary services, ambulatory surgery, ER cases, and complex inpatient records (such as trauma, burns, open heart, transplant cases) based on experience.

Location: Ohio, United States

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Formal education in ICD-9-CM/CPT coding, Medical Terminology, Anatomy, Pathophysiology, and disease processes
  • Preferred: Associate or Bachelor's degree in healthcare related field
  • Preferred: RHIT, RHIA, or CCS certification
  • Minimum: 1 year Acute Care coding experience

Responsibilities include reviewing various patient records for accurate ICD-10 and/or CPT codes and DRGs, ensuring all coding is supported by physician documentation, querying physicians as needed, maintaining coding productivity and accuracy, resolving billing edits and coding corrections, and managing documentation and communication effectively.

The role includes managing remote work effectively and reporting onsite if system or connectivity issues impact work performance.
