The Medical Coder ensures optimum reimbursement for medical services through accurate and timely reporting and posting of all physician and ancillary services. Our team consists of individuals who enjoy being challenged, continuously learning, and creating a positive work experience!

Responsibilities include reviewing physician dictation for office and hospital visits; verifying appropriate CPT/HCPC/ICD-10-CM codes to ensure visits meet criteria; posting co-pay payments during coding; reviewing, coding, and posting charges for all events in NextGen (hospital, ASC, clinic, radiology); correcting coding denials and assisting billing with appeals; working with physicians and transcription department for necessary changes; answering coding questions for other departments; collaborating with pre-coding, QA, and back office staff to support physician treatment coding; completing missed charges on Unbilled Encounter Report; releasing claims after corrections; coding per payer within AMA CPT guidelines; attending continuing education on coding changes and payer requirements; working with billing and coding management to interpret payer requirements; implementing procedures to ensure compliance and optimum reimbursement; providing excellent customer service to staff, leadership, providers, and customers; maintaining department spreadsheets and WorkLog; supporting other departments on CPT/HCPC/ICD-10-CM code use; assisting with annual provider reviews; participating in quarterly Q&A sessions; assisting with LCD policy interpretation and pre-authorization coding.

Requirements:

Medical coding certification from AAPC (CPC-A or CPC) or AHIMA (CCA, CCS-P) prior to hire.
Minimum 1 year of recent experience coding physician and/or physical therapy services preferred.
Knowledge of Medicare provider requirements preferred.
Excellent communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to communicate effectively in English without translation.
