Medical Records Coder

Archbold

Code all outpatient and inpatient encounters for reimbursement, research, and compliance with federal regulations according to diagnosis(es), operations and procedures using the ICD-9 and CPT-4 coding system.

Demonstrates good judgment and decision-making abilities and utilizes time appropriately.

Ability to work with and get along with others.

Coding skills, typing skills, and computer skills.

Familiarity with medical terminology and anatomy.

Good interpersonal relation skills.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Good physical and mental health.

Constant reading of medical records and coding books.

Ability to remain calm, professional, and productive under stressful situations.

Must maintain concentration and attention to duty 100% of the time.

Sedentary work requiring ability to climb stairs and perform tasks involving bending, stooping, pulling, and pushing.

Education and Experience:

  • Accredited Record Technician (ART) certification and/or Associate Degree in business administration or allied health field and/or experience or training as a coder.
  • Minimum one year hospital-based work experience relating to the medical records department or knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding systems and medical terminology.

Typing skills and basic computer technology knowledge required.

Requirements & Qualifications

Accredited Record Technician (ART) certification and/or Associate Degree in business administration or allied health field and/or experience or training as a coder.

At least one year of hospital-based work experience related to the medical records department or knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT-4 coding systems, and medical terminology.

Coding, typing, and computer skills.

Familiarity with medical terminology and anatomy.
