This role provides accurate and timely assignment of appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes on medical records to collect and index quality health information for routine patient types, including outpatient diagnostics, outpatient physician practice/clinic, inpatient physician services, and emergency room encounters.

- Shift time: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Job Responsibilities:
- Review medical records, super bill, and/or charge sheets to identify diagnoses and procedures.
- Assign ICD-10-CM codes to routine patient types.
- Assign CPT-4 codes to all outpatient procedures.
- Abstract diagnostic and procedural codes and other pertinent data into the network system per policy and procedures.
- Review and monitor assigned work queues, physician notes reports, and missing documentation encounters, coding and abstracting any missed accounts.
- Provide information on specific problem accounts to the Coding Supervisor.
- Collaborate with the Coding Supervisor, Physician, and Practice Manager to identify and resolve documentation opportunities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of hospital and/or physician practice outpatient coding experience.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Certifications (minimum one of the following):
- Certified Coding Specialist-Physician-based (CCS-P)
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
- Certified Outpatient Coder (COC)
Skills:
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, coding guidelines, and computer systems.
- Detail orientation and strong problem-solving skills related to coding.
