Work under the Health Information Management Supervisor or designee to perform medical coding for Douglas County Health Center and Community Mental Health Center. Ensure compliance with third-party payers related to coding, prepare Physician Certifications, Advanced Beneficiary Notices, Detailed Explanation of Non-Coverage, and statistical reports.
Responsibilities include compiling statistical information for reports, maintaining reports and computations, establishing effective work relationships, complying with relevant rules and policies, maintaining current patient diagnosis listings using coding standards, ensuring HIPAA compliance, assisting with diagnostic coding for insurance reimbursements, preparing coding diagnosis for filing, producing certifications and notices, following up on patient hospital transfers, completing state or federal census reporting, promoting a positive image and referrals, participating in Quality Assurance Performance Improvement activities, auditing patient charts, and performing other assigned duties.
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Three years of medical coding experience is required, or fewer years with AHIMA or AAPC coder certification. Medical records experience preferred. Typing speed of 40 net words per minute required. Completion of pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen needed. Equivalent education and experience combinations considered.
Work environment is office-based with typical day-shift hours but may require overtime, evenings, weekends, or holidays. Physical demands include prolonged sitting, reaching, standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally, and requires good sensory abilities and manual dexterity.
