As a Coding Specialist, you will work under the Coding Services Supervisor and Manager, responsible for accurate CPT and ICD-10 coding to maximize reimbursement and minimize denials.
You will have the option to work remotely or in a hybrid setting in Mobile, AL.
Responsibilities include:
- Accurately assign and sequence ICD-10 and CPT codes along with applicable modifiers
- Contact clients when medical record documentation is inadequate or unclear for coding
- Monitor regulatory and payer changes relating to diagnostic and procedure coding
- Research and resolve coding-related system edits, payer rejections, and insurance denials
- Identify trends in denials and rejections to improve client policies and procedures
- Stay current with coding practices via continuing education and resource materials
- Perform other innovative duties as assigned
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum 2 years of medical coding experience focused on OR/procedures
- Nationally recognized coding credential (e.g., CPC, COC, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, or RHIT through AHIMA/AAPC)
- Strong understanding of CPT, HCPCS, CDT, and ICD-10 coding and medical terminology
- Knowledge of medical business and revenue cycle operations
- Proficiency with Office Applications (Word, Excel, Email)
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to follow instructions and maintain effective work relationships
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload independently or as part of a team
