This remote role involves using computerized encoding systems to sequence diagnoses and procedures, adhering to ICD-10-CM/PCS, UHDDS, Medicare, Medicaid, and other guidelines. The coder supports accurate healthcare data reporting for reimbursement, quality measurement, and research. Responsibilities include querying providers for clarification, applying official coding rules, complying with internal policies, attending coding meetings, and participating in problem-solving activities. Continuing education is required to maintain and improve coding skills.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. required
- Coding certification/credential through AHIMA or AAPC in good standing required
- Prior hospital medical coding experience preferred
- Experience with 3M 360 and EPIC systems preferred
- Must score 80% or above on coding assessment; higher scores considered for new coders
- Excellent computer skills, ability to navigate multiple systems and troubleshoot
- Must maintain a confidential home coding work area and work independently (remote)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- High proficiency in ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding classification systems
