At Houston Methodist, the Inpatient Coder is responsible for accurately assigning diagnostic and procedure codes to inpatient encounters based on electronic medical record documentation, ensuring compliance with established rules and regulatory guidelines.
Qualifications include an Associate’s degree or higher in a CAHIIM accredited program or equivalent experience. The candidate should have at least one year of relevant inpatient coding experience or successful completion of specified coding training programs. Required certifications include RHIT, RHIA, or CCS from AHIMA.
The role involves communicating effectively with coding team members and stakeholders, responding promptly to coding requests, initiating physician queries as needed, and maintaining high standards of coding quality utilizing ICD-10-CM/PCS codes and electronic encoder applications.
Strong knowledge of coding classification systems, medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and experience with electronic medical records and coding software are essential. The position may require travel within and outside the Houston Metropolitan area. This is a full-time, non-exempt position with business professional attire.
