Candidates must have a primary address located within Michigan or be willing to move there. Experience with denials is required.
This position codes all services, including major and minor surgical cases, performed in both office and hospital settings for MyMichigan Medical Group, Family Practice Center, and MyMichigan Urgent Care locations. It ensures compliance with third-party payer guidelines and aims to maximize reimbursement according to CPT and ICD coding rules and regulations.
Responsibilities include:
- Coding visits and services within 48 hours of receipt.
- Using Epic coding edits, CPT Assistant, and CMS coding guidelines to correct ICD, CPT, HCPCS codes, modifiers, and place of service.
- Coding all surgical cases including obstetrics within 48 hours.
- Collaborating with physicians/providers to improve documentation.
- Participating in continuing education to enhance coding knowledge.
- Reviewing patient or payer complaints and communicating timely resolutions.
- Meeting productivity guidelines.
Certifications accepted: AAPC CPC, CPC-A (must obtain CPC within 365 days), CCS, CCSP, RHIT, RHIA, CCS-P.
Education: High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.
Experience: Denials experience required; two years physician coding and billing and four years medical field experience preferred; one year direct physician contact preferred.
Skills: Medical terminology, anatomy, knowledge of medical record confidentiality laws, proficiency with computers, organizational and communication skills.
Physical and mental requirements: Sedentary work with occasional lifting of 0-10 lbs, exposure to stressful situations and potential infectious materials, requires wearing personal protective equipment as needed, able to perform job functions as outlined.
