Hospital Inpatient Coder

The Revenue Integrity Department at the Elliot Hospital is responsible for the medical coding of hospital and professional providers, ensuring accurate and optimal coding.

The Hospital Inpatient Coder accurately assigns ICD-10 and DRG codes to hospital inpatient services following current coding guidelines, payer requirements, and regulatory standards. This role supports clinical documentation integrity, timely and compliant coding to optimize reimbursement and minimize denials. The coder collaborates with providers and coding leadership to resolve discrepancies, aid quality improvement, and support revenue cycle performance and compliance goals.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assigning ICD-10 and DRG codes accurately for inpatient services as per guidelines and policies
  • Interpreting office, operative, and procedure notes for coding and modifier assignment
  • Ensuring compliance with coding standards, protocols, and documentation regulations
  • Maintaining at least 95% coding accuracy via quality assurance and audits
  • Serving as a coding expert to ancillary departments, administration, and physicians
  • Meeting or exceeding weekly productivity standards of 100%

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum 2 years coding experience, preferably in a multi-specialty group practice
  • Current AHIMA or AAPC coding certification
  • Consistent ability to meet deadlines reliably
