Medical Records Coder II - Inpatient

Patient Revenue Management Organization (PRMO) at Duke Health is a centralized revenue cycle organization supporting hospitals and clinics. This role is 100% remote for workers residing in NC, VA, SC, TN, FL, or TX and offers a $10,000 sign-on bonus paid over 24 months.

The Medical Records Coder II (Inpatient) is a certified coder who reviews complex inpatient medical records using ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT-4 coding conventions to ensure specificity and optimal reimbursement. Responsibilities include coordinating and reviewing subordinate coders' work, assisting with training and continuing education, auditing work quality, educating physicians on coding practices, and maintaining knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, regulations, and coding guidelines.

Qualifications include a high school diploma and one of the following active certifications: RHIA (no experience required), RHIT (no experience required), CCS (one year experience), CPC or HCS-D (two years experience). The position requires thorough understanding of medical records standards and relevant healthcare regulations.

Requirements & Qualifications

Must hold one of the following active/current certifications:

  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) - one year coding experience required
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) - two years coding experience required
  • Homecare Coding Specialist-Diagnosis (HCS-D) - two years coding experience required

High school diploma required.

Experience levels vary by certification as noted.

Must reside in one of these states for remote work eligibility: North Carolina, Virginia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, Texas.
