The Inpatient Clinical Coder is responsible for the accurate assignment of diagnoses and procedures for inpatient encounters, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and complete capture of clinical complexity to support appropriate reimbursement and reporting.
Responsibilities include:
- Assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes to inpatient records
- Ensure accurate DRG assignment based on documentation and coding guidelines
- Capture all relevant diagnoses, procedures, and POA indicators
- Validate discharge disposition and other key data elements
- Stay current with coding updates, Coding Clinic guidance, and regulatory requirements
- Maintain compliance with ethical coding standards
Qualifications include:
- AHIMA credential (CCS, RHIT, RHIA) required
- Minimum 3 years inpatient coding experience
- Experience with EHR systems and encoder tools
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment
The role is fully remote, Monday through Friday during standard business hours. The company provides all necessary equipment and requires a secure workspace and high-speed internet connection. Strict HIPAA compliance and confidentiality must be maintained.
