Medical Coding Supervisor

UNM Medical Group, Inc. is seeking a Medical Coding Supervisor for a remote, full-time, day shift role based in New Mexico. The position requires living in or relocating to New Mexico and occasional office visits in Albuquerque for technical issues.

The supervisor will manage daily operations of the medical coding team ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and third-party billing regulations. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, staffing coding operations, ensuring timely medical record coding reviews and revenue cycle initiatives, providing expertise on documentation and coding for optimal reimbursement and compliance. The role involves developing reports to monitor coding accuracy and efficiency, identifying operational improvements, and collaborating across departments and leadership.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, at least 3 years medical coding experience with 1 year supervisory experience, and certification such as CPC, CPC-P, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, or RHIT. A degree from an accredited institution may substitute for experience. Verification of education/licensure required if hired.

Key duties comprise supervising coding staff, onboarding, training, enforcing coding compliance, monitoring KPIs, policy implementation, conducting audits and quality reviews, collaborating with physicians and teams on coding education, providing feedback on documentation, managing billing compliance reviews, and maintaining confidentiality.
