Medical Coder III - MQSII

Loyal Source is seeking Medical Coders III with inpatient coding experience for roles at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia.

The Medical Coder III position is essential for ensuring accurate inpatient coding and documentation. Responsibilities include assigning codes and modifiers for inpatient discharges and surgical procedures, reviewing medical documentation for inconsistencies, educating providers on documentation, collaborating with coding auditors, and maintaining Defense Health Agency coding accuracy standards.

The role involves using industry standards such as ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes. Initial training is on-site for 30 days, followed by the possibility of telework up to four days per week pending approval.

Compensation is $32.46 per hour plus $4.93 per hour for health and welfare benefits. On-site shifts are Monday through Friday, eight hours between 6:30 am and 4:30 pm with a 30-minute meal break.

Requirements & Qualifications

Candidates must have post-high school education: an Associate's degree or higher in Health Information Management or equivalent, or a university certificate in medical coding, or relevant college coursework in anatomy, medical terminology, health information management, or pharmacology.

Professional coding certifications required include CPC, RHIT, RHIA, or CCS-P. Institutional coding certifications such as CIC, RHIT, RHIA, or CCS are also required.

Inpatient coding experience is mandatory.

Preference is given to candidates with E&M coding certifications (CEMC or CEMA).

Strong medical ethics, communication, and customer service skills are required.
