This position is 100% remote, with remote workers required to reside in: North Carolina, Virginia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, or Texas.

The Medical Records Coder II is a certified coder who coordinates and reviews the work of subordinate employees and assists with training and continuing education programs. Duties include coding medical records utilizing ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding conventions, reviewing records to ensure specificity and optimal reimbursement, and abstracting information from medical records.
Responsibilities involve reviewing complex medical records, ensuring accurate coding of primary and secondary diagnoses and procedures, auditing quality and quantity of work, assisting with education program development, and consulting with physicians on coding practices.
Maintain thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, disease processes, surgical techniques, and coding guidelines. Adhere to medical record standards and regulations like JCAHO and HCFA. Participate in special projects as needed.
Qualifications include a high school diploma and one of the following certifications: RHIA (no experience required), RHIT (no experience required), CCS (one year experience), CPC or HCS-D (two years experience). Candidates must hold an active certification related to hospital or homecare coding.
