The Medical Coder performs CPT and ICD-10 coding through abstraction of the medical record focusing on Evaluation and Management services. The role includes training physicians and staff regarding documentation, billing and coding, and various administrative and clerical duties to support core functions. The coder resolves Optum coding edits and ensures accurate coding practices.
Responsibilities include thorough review and coding of physician professional services and diagnosis codes, following official coding guidelines, providing feedback to physicians, maintaining coding reference materials, conducting training, communicating updates on coding guidelines, attending educational meetings, resolving pre-accounts receivable edits, correcting billing errors, collaborating with other operational areas and billing staff, and meeting established productivity and quality standards.
Qualifications:
- RHIA, RHIT, CPC, or CCS certification preferred
- Experience in Pain Specialty preferred
- Minimum 1 year relevant experience
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification preferred
- Experience in Pain Specialty preferred
- At least 1 year experience in a relevant role
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
