Medical Records Coder III Outpatient

BayCare is seeking a Medical Records Outpatient Coder III passionate about providing outstanding customer service. This full-time remote position requires residency in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, or South Carolina and has a shift from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities include reviewing short stay focused encounters to assign diagnosis and procedural codes using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding systems, collaborating with departments for missing documentation, monitoring bill hold reports, utilizing medical terminology and anatomy, and assisting management with mentoring/team training.

Required coding experience in Emergency Room, Same Day Surgery (ambulatory), and Observation cases.

Certifications required: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS); RHIT preferred.

Education required: High school or equivalent; associate degree in Health Information Management preferred.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification required
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in Health Information Management preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of outpatient facility coding experience
  • Strong proficiency in CPT coding
  • Experience coding Emergency Room (ED), Same Day Surgery (ambulatory), and Observation cases
  • Ability to utilize medical terminology and anatomy knowledge
  • Ability to mentor and train junior coders and clinical students
