This position is a dual post linked to Job ID 58429-MCS-C at University Physicians, hiring for two positions.
Responsibilities include reviewing complex clinical documentation and diagnostic results to accurately assign ICD-10-CM, CPT codes, and modifiers to ensure maximum reimbursement and regulatory compliance. Assist with auditing medical records to identify coding and reimbursement issues such as edits, denials, and appeals. Act as liaison between third-party payers and assigned departments for professional coding coordination. Provide assistance and training to faculty, residents, and staff regarding medical record documentation standards and coding changes including Medicare billing and federal laws.
Work hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Remote working options are available.
- Completion of a coding certification program or equivalent training using ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT-4 coding systems.
- One year of related medical records coding experience may substitute for formal training.
- Must obtain one of the following certifications within one year of hire:
- Certified Coding Associate (CCA)
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) by AHIMA
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC/CPC-A)
- Certified Outpatient Coder (COC/COC-A)
- Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC/CIC-A) by AAPC
- Existing staff in this title as of 2014 are grandfathered from certification requirement.
- Preferred: Background in medical office technology with CPC or CCS-P certification.
