Medical Records Coder III Outpatient

BayCare is seeking a Medical Records Outpatient Coder III who will work remotely full-time (must reside in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, or South Carolina). The role involves reviewing short-stay focused encounters to accurately assign diagnosis and procedural codes using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding systems. The coder will collaborate with various departments for missing documentation, monitor bill hold reports, utilize medical terminology and anatomy, and assist management with mentoring and training less experienced coders and clinical practice students.

Coding experience required includes emergency room (ED), same day surgery (ambulatory), and observation cases.

Certifications required: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS). Preferred: RHIT (Health Information).

Education required: High school or equivalent. Preferred: associate degree in Health Information Management.

Experience required: 5 years of outpatient facility coding with strong CPT coding skills.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) required
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in Health Information Management preferred
  • Minimum 5 years outpatient facility coding experience
  • Strong CPT coding knowledge
  • Experience coding emergency room, same day surgery (ambulatory), and observation cases
  • Knowledge and utilization of ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding systems
  • Ability to work remotely within Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, or South Carolina
