Lake Butler Hospital is a critical access hospital in North Florida providing 24-hour emergency services, inpatient hospitalization, swing bed program, rehabilitation services, outpatient laboratory, and outpatient radiology (X-ray, ultrasound, and CT scan) services to Union County and surrounding counties. We are seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Health Information Management (HIM) Medical Coder to join our team. This is a part-time position. Initial responsibilities are on-site, but remote work is possible after successfully demonstrating proficiency in the specifics for our facility.
This position assigns accurate CPT codes from medical records for billing purposes and ensures proper documentation for charge capture. The coder must remain current with industry guidelines, demonstrate ICD-10-CM proficiency, and understand CPT guidelines for separate procedures, bundling, and add-on codes. The candidate must be comfortable reviewing, resolving, and preventing coding denials.
Applicants must have inpatient and outpatient hospital experience and experience in Rural Health Clinics. This is NOT a remote position initially.
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Current certification in ICD-9/CPT-4 coding and ICD-10CM/PCS
- At least 2 years of progressive inpatient and outpatient medical coding work
- Experience in Rural Health Clinics
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with strong computer skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Working knowledge of Health Information Management is required
- Thorough knowledge of ICD-9/CPT-4 and ICD-10 CM/PCS coding sets
- Ability to operate office equipment (fax, copier, computer)
