The Medical Records Coder II is a certified coder responsible for coordinating and reviewing subordinate employees, assisting with training and education programs, and coding medical records using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 conventions. Duties include reviewing medical records for accuracy and specificity of diagnoses and procedures to ensure optimal reimbursement, abstracting data, educating physicians, and communicating with clinical staff for documentation.
Maintain a thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, disease processes, surgical techniques, and medical record regulations. Participate in continuing education and special projects as required.
Knowledge and skills required: advanced ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, DRG/APC reimbursement knowledge, coding software proficiency, effective communication, and data entry skills.
Minimum qualifications:
- High school diploma required.
- Must hold an active certification: RHIA (no experience required), RHIT (no experience required), CCS (1 year coding experience), CPC or HCS-D (2 years coding experience).
