Medical Records Coder III Outpatient

BayCare is seeking a passionate Medical Records Outpatient Coder III to join their team, providing outstanding customer service to the community. This is a PRN (as needed, non-benefit eligible) remote position available to candidates residing in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, or South Carolina. The shift is flexible with workdays Tuesday - Saturday or Sunday - Thursday.

Responsibilities include reviewing short stay focused encounters to accurately assign diagnosis and procedural codes using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding systems, collaborating with various departments to address missing documentation, monitoring bill hold reports, utilizing medical terminology and anatomy knowledge, assisting management with mentoring and training junior coders and clinical practice students, and performing other assigned duties.

Required coding experience includes emergency room (ED), same day surgery (ambulatory), and observation cases.

Required certifications and education:

  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
  • Preferred: RHIT (Health Information)
  • Required education: High school or equivalent
  • Preferred: Associate degree in Health Information Management

Experience: Minimum 5 years of outpatient facility coding with strong CPT coding skills.

  • Must be Certified Coding Specialist (CCS); RHIT preferred

  • Proficient in ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding systems

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in Health Information Management preferred
  • Ability to mentor and train junior coders and students
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy
  • Residency in FL, GA, NC or SC required for remote work
