The Coding Specialist III will review clinical documentation to assign and sequence diagnostic and procedural codes, ensuring accurate MSDRG and/or APC calculations to support hospital billing and reimbursement.
Responsibilities include selecting and sequencing ICD-10 and CPT/HCPCS codes for various patient types such as Acute Inpatient, Observation, Rehabilitation, Psychiatric, SNF, Ambulance, Ambulatory Surgery, Emergency Department, Interventional Radiology, and Hospital Clinics. The role involves reviewing clinical records, abstracting clinical data, maintaining data integrity, assisting with coding practices, ensuring HIPAA compliance, participating in trainings, and maintaining current coding knowledge and credentials.
Qualifications:
- Active AHIMA credentials (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCA) or AAPC credentials (COC, CCS-P, CPC) or related specialty certifications.
- Minimum of 3 years coding experience with diverse record types.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, pathophysiology, and ICD-10, CPT/HCPCS coding sets.
- Ability to maintain at least 95% accuracy and quality standards.
- Proficient with MS Office and Outlook.
- Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
Preferred:
- Associate's degree in HIM or healthcare-related field or equivalent experience.
- Experience in a production coding environment.
- Familiarity with EMR systems (EPIC, Cerner, Meditech).
- Experience with Encoder software (3M, TruCode).
