The role involves assigning appropriate ICD and CPT codes for reimbursement and statistical purposes, following ICD, CPT, CMS, and regulatory guidelines. Abstracting clinical data from medical records accurately.
Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, with at least 1 year of professional coding experience or successful completion of coding fellowship. Required certification from AAPC or AHIMA (CCA, CPC-A eligible if fellowship completed).
Must have experience with CPT, ICD diagnosis coding, E/M documentation guidelines, CCI edits, Medicare LCDs and NCDs, and understand state/federal regulations and payer billing requirements. Computer literacy and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and electronic health records software required.
Responsibilities include reviewing hospital and outpatient documentation for accurate code assignment, entering data for reimbursement/statistics, staying current with coding trends and compliance, and collaborating with the team for quality improvement and claim corrections.

- High School Degree or Equivalent
