Medical Records Outpatient Coder III

BayCare is seeking a Medical Records Outpatient Coder III passionate about outstanding customer service. This full-time remote role (must reside in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, or South Carolina) involves reviewing short stay focused encounters to assign accurate diagnosis and procedural codes using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding systems.

Responsibilities include: collaborating with departments for missing documentation, monitoring bill hold reports, using medical terminology and anatomy knowledge, assisting managers in mentoring/trainings for junior coders and clinical practice students, and other assigned duties.

Required coding experience involves emergency room, same day surgery (ambulatory), and observation cases.

Certifications required: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS). RHIT preferred.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) required
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in Health Information Management preferred
  • Minimum 5 years outpatient facility coding experience
  • Strong CPT coding skills
  • Experience coding emergency room (ED), same day surgery (ambulatory), and observation cases
  • Knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding systems
  • Ability to mentor and train junior coders and clinical practice students
