Medical Records Coder III Outpatient

BayCare is seeking a Medical Records Outpatient Coder III passionate about providing outstanding customer service to the community. This full-time, remote position is open to candidates residing in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, or South Carolina. The shift is Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

Responsibilities include reviewing short stay focused encounters to accurately assign diagnosis and procedural codes using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding systems, collaborating with various departments for missing documentation, monitoring bill hold reports, utilizing medical terminology and anatomy knowledge, mentoring and training Coder I and II team members as well as clinical practice students, and performing other assigned duties.

Required coding experience includes Emergency Room (ED), same day surgery (ambulatory), and observation cases.

Certifications required: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS). Preferred: RHIT (Health Information). Education required: high school diploma or equivalent; preferred: associate degree in Health Information Management.

Minimum of 5 years outpatient facility coding experience and strong CPT coding skills required.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification required

  • Strong CPT coding skills
  • Ability to mentor and train junior coders and clinical practice students
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and anatomy
