Medical Coder and Biller

This is a part-time Medical Coder and Biller position in an internalist clinic located in Pasadena, CA. The role includes analyzing, identifying, and resolving payer payment delays. Duties include contacting insurance companies, submitting authorizations and claims, claims follow-ups, faxing, filing, auditing, submitting appeal letters, reviewing chart notes, coding, accounts receivable, responding to document requests, daily follow-up on outstanding insurance claims, and working daily rejections and denials. The position requires lifting up to 20 lbs.

Work Schedule: Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays from 9:00am to 5:00pm; hours may vary.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze medical records to assign ICD-9, ICD-10 diagnosis codes, and CPT procedure codes
  • Utilize DRG classifications for hospital reimbursement
  • Ensure accurate documentation in EMR/EHR systems
  • Prepare and submit clean insurance claims following payer guidelines
  • Follow up on unpaid or rejected claims
  • Maintain organized medical records ensuring HIPAA compliance
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year of medical billing experience (not entry level)
  • Strong knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT codes, DRG classifications, and medical terminology
  • Proficient with Windows 10, Excel, scanning, faxing, and typing
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with credentialing is preferred
  • Certification such as CPC or CCS is preferred but not mandatory
  • Detail-oriented, organized, professional, fast learner, adaptable, and flexible

Salary: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Minimum 1 year experience in medical billing and coding
  • Knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT codes, DRG classifications
  • Experience with EMR/EHR systems and medical records management
  • Ability to interpret complex medical documentation accurately
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Proficient using Windows 10 and Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and manage time efficiently
  • Credentialing experience preferred
  • Certification such as CPC or CCS preferred but not required
