Qualified candidates should have at least one year of experience in acute homecare, hospice, and medical clinic coding, preferably hold an associate's degree in medical billing and coding or related, and certifications like CPC. Strong knowledge of medical terminology, coding guidelines, billing regulations, and proficiency in EHR and billing software are required.
Key duties include reviewing clinical documentation for accurate ICD and CPT codes, data entry and verification in EHR, submitting claims to insurance and government programs, monitoring and resubmitting denied claims, verifying eligibility and pre-authorizations, balancing accounts receivable, preparing patient invoices, compliance with HIPAA, responding to payer inquiries, supporting audits, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge by continuing education.
